PAIN
MANAGEMENT

There are over 4,000 articles published on the use of PBM (cold laser), 700 of these being randomised controlled trials, supporting the use of it for pain/inflammation management. In fact currently there is more evidence for the use of PBM for neck pain than for any other medical intervention! Perhaps the most significant paper was that from an Australian colleague, Dr Roberta Chow and was published in the highly regarded journal “The Lancet” in 2009. It was to become the most influential research at the time in the evolving global acceptance of PBM (cold laser) as a recognised and effective modality for spinal pain management.

Research has shown that PBM (cold laser therapy) is very effective in managing both acute and chronic pain in a wide range of conditions. It can be equally as effective for multiple types of pain syndromes and it is not dependent on how long the pain has been present for.

Our clinic has arguably the largest range of cold laser units in Australia. We currently use over 12 units from 4 different companies. This gives us the unmatched ability to adapt protocols and modify treatment programmes to suit your particular clinical presentation. Some units are more suitable for superficial skin conditions such as acne, bruising and scar management while others require technology and wavelengths that enable the light photons of energy to pass more deeply into the tissue structures.

One such unit is the MLS (Multi Locked System) device which has a unique and patented laser output that combines 2 wavelengths in a synchronised emission to maximise speed of treatment time and assist in the reduction of pain and swelling.
